Moving

We've all heard the horror stories!

The scenario is this… you hire a cheap moving company because their quote was the lowest.  And who could blame you these days.  We all want to save money any which way we can. But the problem is that the quote only covered a portion of the work the movers claim they did.  They had an additional 2 hours (2x 4 men @ $100 an hour) so now your bill is $800 dollars more that you expected. You’re in the middle of a move so your funds are limited and the cash on hand doesn’t cover these surprise costs.  And, to top it all off, the movers are refusing to unload your truck until the job is paid. So now you find yourself at some remote ATM late at night hoping that this ATM doesn’t have a withdrawal limit of a $500.
WOW!  Talk about a stressful situation. But sometimes you get what you pay for and what, at first, seemed like a bargain, only cost you in the end.
Here are some tricks to make this impossible to happen to you.
Hiring a professional, honest moving company will take a lot of the stress and pretty much all of the physical work out of your move. So your first task is to find an honest company.
You can start with a Google search.  Visit their website and look for license numbers, affiliations and check their BBB rating.  Also keep an eye out for testimonials; but be aware that some testimonials are written by the company themselves so check out their Facebook page and see what their fans are saying.  You are seeing real comments from real customers.
Ask about pricing and if they charge by the mile, by time, or both? Do they charge additional rates for certain pieces of furniture or appliances such as refrigerators or pianos?
Does the company offer insurance?
How experienced are their movers?
What guarantees does the company offer?
Do they have a complaint process? How do they handle any disputes?
